From time to time, Mr. Reinhart’s mother’s primary care doctor meets with him for a standard consultation with relatives. These discussions are paid for by health insurance. During these appointments, Mr. Reinhart and the doctor review his mother’s medications, among other things.

R: Dann eben so hygienische Sachen, Stuhlgang, usw. und dann die Medikamentenliste durchgehen und dann frage ich halt, was denken sie? Gibt es hier etwas, was man eventuell absetzen kann? Es ist nicht an mir, etwas abzusetzen. Ich bin kein Arzt. Ich mache unendlich viele Sachen mit mir selbst. Da bestimme ich. Aber ich würde nie über jemand andern bestimmen. Das muss der Arzt machen. Und oft ist es dann wirklich so, dass von so einer Liste am Schluss dann noch einiges davon abgesetzt wird. Das machen eigentlich G [Arzt] und ich und sonst niemand.
