Mr. Markus has a six-week memory gap when he wakes up. But he remembers individual moments when he was supposedly still unconscious.

M. Markus a un vide de 6 semaines quand il se réveille. Mais, il se souvient de certains moments vécus à son chevet alors qu'il était  supposé encore inconscient.

Donc, d'après le calendrier, il me manque les six semaines, mais j'ai bien vécu mes visites / j'ai bien expérimenté. J'ai donc vécu l'expérience de ma femme, qui m'a lavé les jambes. Mes deux enfants. Un couple d'amis a même chanté une chanson à mon chevet, j'en ai été spectateur et j'ai également été témoin des soins prodigués entre-temps. Et ce qui était vraiment excitant pour moi, c'est que j'étais dans la pièce avec les gens, je ne souffrais pas, mais ensuite ma femme a pleuré et m'a dit : s'il te plaît, reste ici. Cela m'a touché émotionnellement. Et ça m'a rendu triste, mais je n'ai jamais eu mal et la pièce avait une lumière chaude et brillante. Et je me sentais très à l'aise dans cette lumière, hum, ça peut paraître fou maintenant, mais c'est surprenant. Et les / comme je disais, les infirmiers avec qui je suis arrivé.L'un d'entre eux était très drôle, il avait une barbe bouclée, des cheveux bouclés et ils étaient très, très empathiques, c'est ce que j'ai remarqué. Et puis un infirmier m'a parlé. Il a dit à l'autre personne, ils étaient alors deux dans le service, et alors il a dit, je crois, et alors il a dit que je pense qu'il va faire quelquechose,un expérience. Et puis il m'a dit que si je l'entendais, je devais bouger les yeux, même s'ils étaient fermés. Et puis il m'a dit que lorsque je l'entendais, je devais bouger les yeux, même s'ils étaient fermés. Et donc je leur ai donné le signe et il était très heureux. Mais aussi mes amis qui sont venus me rendre visite plus tard dans l'unité de soins intensifs sont presque tombés de leur chaise lorsque je les ai remerciés d'être là et de chanter la chanson. Parce qu'ils pensaient que je n'avais même pas remarqué. Et oui, à un moment donné, c'était très intense, parce que ma femme et mes enfants m'ont dit de rester ici, de rester ici.Et puis j'ai juste prié Dieu qu'il me donne une autre chance, qu'il me permette de revenir à nouveau, et puis la lumière est devenue de plus en plus brillante et soudain j'ai remarqué que j'avais ouvert les yeux et qu'ils étaient tellement collés.  Et puis il y a eu un peu d'agitation dans la pièce parce qu'ils m'avaient alors lavé les yeux et donc, et ils étaient tous très heureux que je sois de retour.

Quindi dal calendario mi mancano le sei settimane, ma ho vissuto la mia visita / ho sperimentato. Così ho sentito mia moglie, quando mi ha lavato le gambe. I miei due figli. Un paio di amici, hanno anche cantato una canzone al capezzale, sono stato testimone di questo e sono stato anche testimone della cura nel mezzo. E quello che è stato davvero emozionante per me è stato che ero nella stanza con le persone, non stavo soffrendo, ma poi mia moglie ha pianto e ha detto: per favore, rimani qui. Questo mi ha commosso emotivamente. E mi ha reso triste, ma non ho mai sofferto e la stanza era una luce calda e luminosa. E mi sentivo molto a mio agio in quella luce, um, può sembrare assurdo ora, ma sorprendentemente è così. E le / come ho detto, le infermiere con cui sono venuto. Uno di loro era molto divertente, aveva la barba e i capelli ricci ed era molto, molto sensibile, questo è quello che ho notato. Poi un infermiere maschio mi ha parlato. Ha detto all'altra persona che c'erano due di loro nel distaccamento, e poi ha detto che credo che stia per sperimentare qualcosa. E poi mi ha detto che quando lo sentivo, dovevo muovere gli occhi, anche se erano chiusi. E così gli ho dato il segno e lui era molto felice. Ma anche i miei amici che poi sono venuti a trovarmi nel reparto di terapia intensiva sono quasi caduti dalle loro sedie quando li ho ringraziati per essere lì e per aver cantato la canzone. Perché pensavano che non me ne fossi nemmeno accorto. E sì, a un certo punto è stato molto intenso, perché mia moglie e i miei figli dicevano: "Resta qui, resta qui". E poi ho solo pregato Dio che mi desse un'altra possibilità, che mi permettesse di tornare di nuovo, e poi la luce è diventata sempre più brillante e improvvisamente ho notato che ho aperto i miei occhi e che erano così incollati. E poi c'è stata un po' di confusione nella stanza perché poi mi avevano lavato gli occhi e così, ed erano tutti molto felici che fossi tornato.

Quando si sveglia, al signor Markus mancano 6 settimane di memoria.

Herr Markus hat eine sechswöchige Erinnerungs - Lücke, als er aufwacht. Aber er erinnert einzelne Momente, als er angeblich noch bewusstlos war.

Also vom Kalender her fehlen mir die sechs Wochen, aber ich habe mein Besuch / habe ich erlebt. Also ich habe meine Frau, wo mir die Beine gewaschen hat, miterlebt. Meine zwei Kinder. Ein Freundesehepaar, die haben sogar noch ein Lied gesungen am Bett, das habe ich mitbekommen und ich habe auch zwischendurch die Pflege mitbekommen. Und was für mich ganz spannend war, ich war in dem Raum mit den Leuten, hatte keine Schmerzen, aber wo meine Frau dann geweint hat und gesagt hat: bleib bitte hier. Das hat mich dann seelisch bewegt. Und traurig gemacht, aber Schmerzen hatte ich nie und der Raum war ein warmes, helles Licht. Und ich habe mich ähm es tönt jetzt vielleicht verrückt aber erstaunlicherweise sehr wohl gefühlt in dem Licht. Und die / wie gesagt, die Pfleger habe ich mitgekommen. Der eine war sehr ein lustiger, der hatte ein gekrauster Bart, gekrauste Haare und  waren sehr, sehr einfühlsam, das ist mir dann aufgefallen. Und dann hat mich ein Pfleger angesprochen. Er hat zum anderen gesagt, sie waren dann zu zweit in der Ablös, dann hat er gesagt ich glaube der kommt irgendwas mit der erlebt irgendwas. Und dann hat er mir gesagt, wenn ich ihn höre, soll ich mit den Augen // obwohl sie geschlossen waren, bewegen. Und so habe ich ihnen das Zeichen gemacht und der hat eine Riesenfreude gehabt. Aber ähm ja auch meine Freunde wo dann später auf die Intensiv kamen mich besuchen, die sind fast vom Stuhl gefallen als ich mich als erstes bedankt habe, dass sie da waren und das Lied gesungen haben. Weil die haben gedacht, das habe ich gar nicht mitbekommen. Und ja, irgendwann war es sehr intensiv, da meine Frau und Kinder gesagt haben bleib hier, bleib hier. Und dann habe ich einfach zu Gott gebetet, dass Er mir nochmals eine Chance gibt, dass ich nochmals darf zurückkehren und dann wurde das Licht immer heller und heller und plötzlich merkte ich, dass ich meine Augen aufmachte und dass sie so verklebt waren. Und dann gab es ein bisschen eine Unruhe im Raum, weil sie hatten mir dann die Augen gewaschen und so, und waren alle sehr happy, dass ich wieder da bin.

Als er aufwacht, fehlen Herrn Markus 6 Wochen in der Erinnerung.

So from the calendar I miss the six weeks, but I have my visit / I have experienced. So I have witnessed my wife, where washed my legs. My two children. A couple of friends, they even sang a song at the bedside, I witnessed that and I also witnessed the care in between. And what was really exciting for me was that I was in the room with the people, I wasn't in pain, but then my wife cried and said: please stay here. That moved me emotionally. And saddened, but I never had pain and the room was a warm, bright light. And I felt um it may sound crazy now but amazingly very comfortable in that light. And the / like I said, the nurses I came with. One of them was very funny, he had a curly beard, curly hair and was very, very sensitive, I noticed that. And then a male nurse approached me. He said to the other, they were then two in the relief, then he said I think he comes something with the experiences something. And then he told me, if I hear him, I should move with my eyes // although they were closed. And so I gave them the sign and he was very happy. But also my friends who later came to visit me in the intensive care unit, they almost fell off their chairs when I first thanked them for being there and singing the song. Because they thought I hadn't even noticed. And yes, at some point it was very intense, because my wife and children said stay here, stay here. And then I just prayed to God that He would give me another chance, that I would be allowed to return again and then the light got brighter and brighter and suddenly I realized that I opened my eyes and they were so glued shut. And then there was a bit of a commotion in the room because they had then washed my eyes and so, and were all very happy that I was back.

There is no typical way to wake up in an ICU after coma or sedation. In fact, patients are usually confused, have lost track of time and do not immediately know where they are.  Their unfamiliar surroundings take them by surprise and are sometimes unpleasant: In some cases, patients cannot speak, are thirsty and feel helpless.

From the very beginning, Mr. Markus M. felt comfortable and secure.

.... and then when I was in the ICU, the sounds from the machines were very unpleasant, but I knew as long as they were running, I was alive,too right? So I was able to bear that away very well. So it was very annoying the beeping and all that and then I thought hey listen, when they don't beep anymore, then you're gone. And that's why I thought, that's good! That they show me that they are still working, and yes. I actually got used to the , that's very amazing for me also new territory for my person. I could never visit someone in the hospital for more than 10 minutes, fifteen minutes, I was uncomfortable. And I was actually comfortable the whole time I was in the hospital, soon five months. I felt understood and secure.

Mr Markus M always felt secure.

The intensive care unit is bustling with activity. Clinical teams are busy with intensive patient care and emergencies. The environment is dominated by machines and modern technology that enable survival in critical illness.  In addition, there are team conversations and sounds from neighboring patients. This leads to noise, light, which can be disturbing for the patients.
