Roswitha S. tells how she got scared during the operation and calmed herself down.

TRANSCRIPT

Interviewer: Were you afraid of the procedure? Roswitha S.: No. I would say, first of all, it was actually the first time I had been to hospital. I had little hospital experience. And the trust in these surgeons, that was really high. But of course I also had moments of panic [during the operation]. You could always hear that right away, when the pulse suddenly quickened. And then I calmed myself down. So I took myself out of the operation. I played dead. It sounds stupid now, but it was a kind of playing dead. Interviewer: No, no. It's a strategy to cope with the situation, so that's not stupid at all. Roswitha S.: Yes, exactly. And it also helped.
